Daily Program Option Descriptions
-BETWEEN THE LINES: Come hang out in the library and outside (weather permitting) for this ‘choose your own cozy adventure’ program. Here, you have the opportunity to do various activities that are both interesting and relaxing. From coloring, and logic puzzles, individual reading and even starting a book club; this program is designed to be flexible to your interests and needs.
-CONNECTIONS CAMP: Join Ms. Roxy and Chaez for your ‘traditional summer camp’ style program. This program is designed to move and adjust to student interest, abilities and weather. (Students can choose to participate in the focused game, or play something else and always have the opportunity to watch a movie.)
-FIELD SCIENCE: This course turns students into field researchers. Explore local ecosystems and learn how scientists observe, measure, record, and explain the natural world using scientific evidence. The focus is on outdoor investigation: biodiversity, soils, water, microclimates, and human impact. Keep a field notebook with observations, sketches, measurements, and reflections. Learn field methods and investigate biodiversity: plants, insects, fungi, and signs of animal activity. Conduct soil and water mini-labs, measure microclimates, and study human impact. No advanced science background is needed. Curiosity, willingness to be outdoors, and careful observation matter most.

Students in this group will roll up their sleeves and reconnect with the land through hands-on learning. Students will learn the ins and outs of gardening, using freshly grown produce they will harvest from Spring Session’s Homesteading group, food preservation, nature based crafts (think natural v. ‘regular’ tie dye), and sustainability practices that will leave students feeling empowered and connected. Partnered with MVU’s Creative Kitchen, students will plan, cultivate, and harvest produce from a shared garden.
-MAGIC: THE GATHERING: Looking for a community of Magic: The Gathering enthusiasts? Join our Magic the Gathering summer program! We'll meet every morning during the summer program to discuss strategies, compete in tournaments and build your understanding of Magic. No matter your level of experience, everyone is welcome to join the fun.
-OUTDOOR SURVIVAL: This course builds practical outdoor survival skills with a strong focus on safety, decision making, and confidence in the outdoors. Students learn essential survival priorities, navigation basics, shelter building, knots, fire safety (staff-led and policy-dependent), signaling, and scenario-based problem solving. The course is hands-on and team-based, with daily outdoor skills practice and structured challenges.
-QUILTING WITH MS. KOLK: Students will learn the basics of quilting, and will spend the weeks making their own homemade quilt. This cozy, calm program combines the love of crafting, with the creativity of designing your own masterpiece and ending with a finished product to take home and cherish forever.

That depends. For programs located at Northwest Access T.V. in St. Albans, there is no transportation available. For programs at Swanton Recreational Center, Swanton Elementary School, and the Swanton Public Library, parents can arrange for their student to take the Swanton bus. However, there is no transportation home from these programs.
“What do I do if my student plays sports and their attendance will be spotty?”
Please reach out to Taylor AlKassir to arrange for alternative scheduling- students no longer need to join a specific class during refuel and ride, and can have free time in A-14 until their practice/ class.
“Why are there tryouts for esports, and how does this work?”

“I have more questions or concerns, who do I contact?”
You can reach out to Beyond the Bell’s Site Coordinator, Taylor AlKassir @mvu.afterschool@mvsdschools.org or call 802-868-0507.
