Crossroads Grades 3 - 6

Hello, my name is Elsa Rood and I live in Franklin. Prior to being in Franklin, I lived in Texas and Maryland. I originally started with the MVSD After School Programs as a staff member and later transitioned to being the Franklin Site Coordinator. I have been the Site Coordinator at Franklin for over 15 years now. I enjoy and love bringing new experiences and opportunities to our Franklin students. I specifically like to craft, read, create with my hands, and spend time with my family. I am a mother of three, who are all adults, and a grandmother to two fun and busy grandsons. I also have three cats named Oliver, Delilah, and Lucy Lu that I enjoy taking care of.

Hello, my name is Ellen Trushaw and I have lived in Swanton my whole life. I am the Afterschool Site Coordinator at Highgate. I love being able to offer children opportunities and experiences that the busy school day does not allow for. This is my third year in Highgate and I am looking forward to offering the students different opportunities and recently incorporating first graders into our amazing experiences.  I love to read, travel, shop and enjoy time with friends and family. My motto is Life is Good, which I try to live by each and every day.

Crossroads Grades 4 - 6

Hello, my name is Molly Hartman-Lontine and I live in Swanton with my husband and two dogs. I grew up in Highgate and attended MVU before going on to earn a teaching degree from Castleton State College. I taught music, dance and theater at St. Albans City School for several years before becoming the Swanton Crossroads Site Coordinator. I love being creative and developing fun and educational experiences for students. Giving students a positive, safe environment where they can learn and have fun is very important to me. In my free time I love to read, do puzzles, exercise and spend time with my family!

BECCA TUCKER, MVU AFTER SCHOOL & SUMMER SITE COORDINATOR

BEYOND THE BELL Grades 7 - 12

Hello! My name is Becca Tucker and I am excited to introduce myself as the MVU After School Site Coordinator. While I currently live in Swanton, my roots lie in the northern suburbs of Illinois. Prior to joining MVSD, I had the incredible opportunity to work at a non-profit wildlife center, where my passion for program creation and out-of-school learning was ignited. I am delighted to bring a diverse range of experiences to the students at MVU, allowing them to explore beyond the boundaries of a typical school day. I am eager to immerse myself in the needs of my community and contribute to its growth. During my leisure time, you can find me hiking, baking, indulging in a good book, and cherishing moments with my friends, family, and pets. Speaking of which, I am a proud parent to three adorable dogs - Toby (Australian Shepard), Sophie (Beagle), and Wanpo (Italian Greyhound/Chihuahua). I strive to embrace each day as an opportunity for personal growth and treasure the value it holds. It is my sincere aspiration to impart this mindset to the students in my program.

HOLLY FORTUNE, ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGER

holly.fortune@mvsdschools.org

I joined the MVSD After School team in August 2018, coming from a twelve year office administration career with a local company in South Burlington. I took this part-time position in order to spend more time with my family. While I may be working behind the scenes of the After School Program, I love being a part of a program that is helping children and families and feeling like I am making a difference.  I live in Georgia with my husband and two sons, one dog, two cats and many chickens. I grew up in Springfield, Vermont and was an art major, receiving my BA from New England College in 2000. I try to celebrate art and creativity in my life at all times. I also enjoy gardening, baking, yoga, camping and hiking.

BETH ANN MILLER, DISTRICT DIRECTOR of AFTER SCHOOL & SUMMER PROGRAMS

bethann.miller@mvsdschools.org

I joined MVSD in July 2020. I relocated from Maine where I’d been working as an Assistant Professor of Humanities and Director of Graduate Studies, having focused my career on higher education administration, youth development, teaching, and writing. I loved hosting and performing in readings in Portsmouth, Portland, and Boston, and publishing my stories in national journals. I grew up in Vermont and it’s nice to be close to family again.

I feel like I have done my job well if I am able to create an environment in which students feel comfortable searching for their unique voices, then feel empowered to use those voices in a positive and productive way.
