Swanton Explorers Program Descriptions

Spring Session 2025 - March 10 to June 5 for Grades 1-3

MONDAYS

-CRAFTERNOONS AT THE LIBRARY: Join youth librarian Hilarie for an exciting afternoon exploring different craft and art types at the Swanton Public Library!

-TOTAL FIT KIDS: Do you love to move and try new fitness games and activities? Come challenge yourself and have a blast with your friends during Total Fit Kids! Don’t forget sneakers and comfy clothes that you can move in.

-HEART & SOLE (GR 3-4): In partnership with the Girls on the Run program; separate registration with Miss Moran required. Participants can join Crossroads for a meal before their program begins and take the bus home if needed. Please fill out our registration form in order to receive meals/transportation.


TUESDAYS

-CURIOUS CREATORS: Each session will focus interactive and hands-on activities, allowing students to explore various scientific concepts through fun experiments and engaging activities.  Topics will include flying, music, rainbows, launchers, bridges, towers, and other science topics.

-OUTDOOR CRAFTS: Get ready for a fun afternoon of outdoor crafts! Spend some time outside, enjoying the nice weather while creating spring and summer themed crafts.

-HEART & SOLE (GR 3-4): See Description Above


WEDNESDAYS

-CROSSROADS COMMUNITY HELPERS: This class is meant to support our school community through caring for our spaces and materials while teaching students about community service.

-SPRINGTIME CRAFTS: Springtime Crafts will focus on spring themed art projects. Many projects will teach students how to use their outdoor environment and recycled materials to get creative.


THURSDAYS

-CRAFTY CRITTERS: Do you love animals?  Do you enjoy crafting and creating?  This is the class for you!  Build dinosaurs with paper plates, hedgehogs out of yarn, turtles with coffee filters, and much more!  Create a new animal craft/art project each week.

-PICKLEBALL BASICS (GR 3-6): Students will spend this hour-long class participating in two sections with Mr. Nielsen. The first half will be important skill practice and drills to improve paddle skills, and the second half will be games on the big nets. This will help apply the most basic skills and rules to a game application, so students can have fun and possibly connect their learning to future opportunities in the sport of pickleball.

-TAEKWONDO: Taekwondo classes focusing on entry level techniques and the skills utilized in the martial arts. Students will also connect this martial art with its original country, Korea.


Swanton Crossroads Program Descriptions

Spring Session 2025 - March 10 to June 5 for Grades 4-6

MONDAYS

-DUNGEONS & DRAGONS - ADVANCED (GR 5-6): Welcoming players into the fantasy world of D&D. Sit down, roll dice and get lost in the story told by your Dungeon Master. Fighting creatures, saving villagers, collecting treasure and more is waiting. The world is yours! *This class will be geared toward more experienced players, who have played for at least one session.

-SCIENCE SQUAD: Participants in this class will explore a variety of science concepts while focusing on the steps of STEM.  Students will be presented with a real world challenge or problem where they will then plan, create, test, and improve a solution to the problem.

-DESTINATION IMAGINATION: Continuing from last session - students enrolled in this class for Winter will automatically be re-enrolled for the rest of the school year.  No new enrollments will be available this session. Solve awesome STEAM challenges, make new friends, learn new skills, develop your creative side, plan, build and present your own solution!

-GROOVE & GO: Do you like dancing and being active? Join Ms. Tria every Tuesday to learn different styles of dance; focusing on learning new routines and techniques. *Please bring comfortable clothes & sneakers.

-MAGIC: THE GATHERING (GR 5-6): This card game develops students' critical thinking, math, and reading skills in fun settings that foster friendships and social connection. This session will be geared towards teaching students how to play the game and how the rules of the game work.

-GYM GAMES: Join Mr. Hancock for an afternoon of fun games and sports in the gym! Play with friends and have a blast learning new activities each week while staying active.

-DRAMA CLUB: Join Tria for a day of theatre games, acting out scenes, improv and more!

SATURDAYS AT SWANTON REC 

-JUNIOR IRON CHEF (GR 5-6): With Miss Nicole’s guidance, students will work as a team to create and perfect a delicious and healthy recipe.  We’ll take the cooking skills we learn along the way to compete against other teams from across Vermont. See if your recipe will be good enough to add to school menus throughout the state! FEBRUARY 15 - MARCH 29, 10AM - 12PM, no transportation provided.
