Spring Session 2025  - March 10 to June 6, for Grades 7-12

MONDAYS

-CREATIVE WRITING: MVU STORYWEAVERS: Are you interested in storytelling, but find traditional English classes too focused on essays and research? Do you have trouble during the creative process, and would benefit from a supportive environment? MVU Storyweavers features immersive lessons about the craft of writing an engaging piece of work, covering everything from plotting to prose, as well as a place to share work,  get critique, and work on any personal projects.

-ESPORTS: CHESS CLUB*:Whether you're a beginner eager to learn or an experienced player looking to sharpen your skills, our Chess Club is the perfect place for you. Join us for friendly games, challenging puzzles, and the chance to improve your chess game. Get ready to test your skills against other schools across Vermont! Team spots are limited, and consistent attendance is crucial to secure your spot and represent our school in exciting inter-school competitions. Commitment is key—your presence at each session is vital for team success. Must attend Monday and Tuesday

-ESPORTS: SUPER SMASH BROS*: Get ready to power up your gaming prowess! Join our high-octane esports team geared up for epic showdowns in Super Smash Brothers against schools statewide. But here's the deal: team spots are limited, and every practice is your ticket to victory. Commitment is key—your presence at each session is crucial to secure your spot and conquer the competition. Must attend Monday and Wednesday

-ESPORTS: ROCKET LEAGUE*: Get ready to power up your gaming prowess! Join our high-octane esports team geared up for epic showdowns in Rocket League against schools statewide. But here's the deal: team spots are limited, and every practice is your ticket to victory. Commitment is key—your presence at each session is crucial to secure your spot and conquer the competition. Must attend Monday and Thursday 

*Transportation for Esports will not be provided to Northwest Access TV. Students younger than 13 may not be able to participate in statewide matches. 

-REFUEL AND RIDE: Designed for participants in sports, musical or other events that keep you after school, this club offers a post-school snack and convenient 5pm transportation home for those whose activities or practices have concluded. Stay energized and worry-free as you balance academics, extracurriculars and athletics. *This is only intended for student athletes & those participating in the musical to receive a meal & bus ride, please do not register your student for this if you intend on having them participate in programming daily.

-VIDEO GAME: AGENTS OF INFLUENCE: Be a Game-Changer! Join us for Agents of Influence and help shape the future of gaming! As a member, you'll have the unique opportunity to playtest a brand-new video game, Agents of Influence, and provide valuable feedback to the development team. Be part of something special and leave your mark on the gaming world!


TUESDAYS

-ART CLUB: CREATIVE MINDS: Are you passionate about art? Creative Minds  is a supportive community where you can develop your artistic skills, explore new techniques, and connect with like-minded individuals. No matter your artistic journey, we have something for everyone. Let's create together!

-ESPORTS: CHESS CLUB: See description above (Must attend both Monday and Tuesday)

-KITCHEN ALCHEMY: Discover the magic that happens when science meets deliciousness! Unravel the secrets of molecular gastronomy, discover how science can transform the way food looks, tastes, and feels. Become a culinary chemist: experiment with foams, gels, emulsions, and other amazing techniques. Play with your food (in the most delicious way possible!) Create edible art, concoct surprising flavors, and invent your own unique culinary masterpieces. No prior experience necessary! Just bring your curiosity and a love for food. (Begins in April) (Must attend both Tuesday and Thursday)

-MAGIC THE GATHERING: Looking for a community of Magic: The Gathering enthusiasts? Join our Magic the Gathering club! We'll meet on Tuesdays to discuss strategies, compete in tournaments and build your understanding of magic. No matter your level of experience, everyone is welcome to join the fun.

-THUNDERBIRD STRENGTH & FITNESS: Get ready to sweat it out, feel the adrenaline, and enjoy an invigorating workout that not only challenges your body but also sharpens your mind. Whether you're a fitness enthusiast or just beginning your health journey, Thunderbird Strength and Fitness is here to help you reach your full potential. Elevate your strength, expand your fitness knowledge, and experience the thrill of achieving a healthier, stronger you!

-JUNIOR IRON CHEF: Continuing from last session - students enrolled in this class for Winter will automatically be re-enrolled for Spring.  No new enrollments will be available this session. Think you've got what it takes to be a culinary champion? Become a part of our MVU Jr Iron Chef teams set to compete against schools across Vermont. Create a recipe with the potential to feature on school menus statewide. Are you ready to take on this challenge? (Must attend Tuesday and Thursday)


WEDNESDAYS

-DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: DRAGON’S DEN: Embark on an epic adventure led by a fellow student! This class offers a unique opportunity to explore the world of D&D under the guidance of a passionate and creative peer. Join forces with other aspiring adventurers to create unforgettable memories and shape the course of your own campaign.

-MVU YOUTH COUNCIL: Make a difference in your community! You know what teens in our area want

and need. Come help plan, collaborate and develop a project idea that would benefit local youth. Successful proposals will have the opportunity to manage thousands of dollars and make their project a reality.


THURSDAYS

-DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: MASTER OF THE DUNGEON: Dive deep into the world of D&D with an experienced Dungeon Master at the helm. This class offers a guided exploration of the game's mechanics, lore, and strategic gameplay. Learn from a seasoned pro as you navigate challenging encounters, solve intricate puzzles, and uncover hidden secrets.

FRIDAYS

-FRIDAYS @SWANTON REC: Join us every Friday at the Swanton Recreation Center  for a fun-filled afternoon! Beyond the Bell has partnered with the Swanton Recreation Center to create a welcoming space for teens to hang out and explore their interests. Transportation will not be provided to the Swanton Recreation Center. Some students take the bus to Swanton School and walk to the Rec from there.

-SWANTON LIBRARY: TEEN MAKERSPACE: Discover your passions at the Swanton Library! Beyond the Bell is hosting a brand new teen program in partnership with the Swanton Public Library every Friday. Get hands-on with the awesome tools in the maker space, like 3D printers, free art materials, button makers and more! Feeling more low-key? Grab a great book, find a comfy spot in the Teen Room, and chill with friends. It's your space, your time! Transportation will not be provided to the Swanton Library. There is a bus immediately after school that goes directly to the Swanton Library. (Program ends in May)


ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES:

-CATALYST: Need help navigating the job market? MVU’s Career Center is your one-stop shop for advice on resumes, cover letters, and college applications. Drop in Mondays or Wednesdays for free workshops and individual assistance.

-HELPING HANDS: Helping Hands is an opportunity for students who want to make a difference within our school by providing a meal & transportation! Plan Your Service: Work with a teacher or guidance counselor to brainstorm and plan a community service project/volunteer opportunity within the school. Once your project is approved, your instructor can reach out to Becca Tucker. Complete your approved community service project/volunteer hours and get a meal & transportation home! *Volunteer projects MUST be approved & communicated to Becca Tucker prior to club registration.

-MARCH MADNESS: Get ready for March Madness, two weeks of volleyball fun and open gym time! Whether you're a volleyball pro or just want to bump around with friends, we've got you covered.  Come spike, serve, and block your way to victory in our volleyball games, or get creative with basketball, dodgeball, and other awesome activities in the open gym. It's all happening this spring, so don't miss out on the March Madness action! (Mon-Thurs, March 10th-20th)

-VERMONT YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS: Ever dreamed of seeing your own words come to life on stage? Our Vermont Young Playwrights program could be your chance! Join us for three exciting workshops where you'll learn the secrets of playwriting from pros. You'll get to write your own 10-minute play and then watch it performed by real actors at the legendary Flynn Center in Burlington this spring! It's a chance to unleash your creativity, make new friends, and experience the thrill of live theater. Don't miss out – space is limited, so sign up today!
